California Craft Spirits Competition held at Mid-State Fair 

California Craft Spirits Competition highlights quality of the growing spirits movement

The California Craft Spirits Competition recently announces the award-winning craft spirits from its second annual blind-tasting event, held June 22 at the California Mid-State Fair.

  • Best of Show went to Liberty Call Distilling’s Bourbon (Spring Valley, CA), after receiving a Gold Medal and the Best Bourbon award.
  • Best Rye Whiskey – Re:Find Distillery’s Rye Whiskey (Paso Robles, CA)
  • Best Vodka – Rocket Works Unflavored Vodka (Truckee, CA)
  • Best Rum – Calwise Spirits Co. Aged Rum (San Luis Obispo, CA)
  • Best Liqueur – Opolo Vineyards Herbal/Botanical/Spiced Liqueurs (Paso Robles, CA)
  • Best Gin – Jewell Distillery Contemporary Gin (Blue Lake, CA)

“The quality and range of submissions are amazing, and continue to get better. We’re excited to see what happens next year,” said returning Chief Judge, Tim McDonald, president of Wine Spoken Here.

The competition took place at Estrella Hall at the California Mid-State Fair on June 22. The judges blind-tasted 24 entries in the different classes of craft spirits, awarding gold, silver and bronze medals. Afterwards the six Best in Class honors were awarded and the Best of Show was chosen.

“The California Craft Spirits Competition showcases the amazing spirits made throughout California. The CCSC shows the potential this industry has and we are excited to see how this
competition will expand in the future,” said Mid-State Fair CEO Michael Bradley.

About The California Craft Spirits Competition

The California Craft Spirits Competition (CCSC) highlights and celebrates craft distillers producing the finest quality artisan spirits inside and outside of California. In its second year, the CCSC is a collaboration of six California fairs: California Mid-State Fair (July 19-30); Contra Costa County Fair; Cow Palace/Grand National Livestock Exposition, Horse Show and Rodeo; Monterey County Fair; San Benito County Fair; and Santa Maria Fairpark.
