California State Parks improves website for campground booking
Reservation integration now shows nearly real-time campsite availability
– California State Parks announced Thursday that campground availability and reservation features are being upgraded to improve access and usability for visitors through Parks.ca.gov.
Previously, visitors could only make reservations through ReserveCalifornia.com, the state’s official campground reservation service. With the update, users visiting the Parks.ca.gov site can now check campground availability, view nearly real-time site status, and access nearby campground options. The actual reservation process will continue through ReserveCalifornia, but the new integration is designed to offer more convenience for those planning trips to California’s state parks.
“California’s state parks are home to some of the world’s best campgrounds, and we want to make it as easy as possible to find your perfect campsite,” State Parks Director Armando Quintero said. “Whether you prefer camping among the redwoods, steps away from the ocean or high up in the mountains, your next state parks adventure is just a few clicks away.”
In addition to improved web integration, State Parks is expanding its reservation drawing system to three more high-demand campgrounds. The drawing system, first piloted at Mount Tamalpais State Park, will now include Malibu Creek State Park starting this month. Morro Bay State Park and McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park will be added later this summer.
Reservation drawings are free to enter through ReserveCalifornia and offer users a chance to secure campsites at popular destinations. Since the launch of the pilot drawing in 2023, the Steep Ravine Cabins at Mount Tamalpais State Park have received more than 100,000 entries.
For more information on reservation drawings, visitors can review the Reservation Drawing FAQs available online.
