California State Parks launches annual photo contest
Visitors can submit photos through Aug. 1
– California State Parks has launched its second annual “Share Your Space” photo contest and is inviting visitors to submit photos taken in any of California’s 280 state parks through Aug. 1.
The contest opened June 5 and allows participants to enter photos through the California State Parks app powered by OuterSpatial.
“The beauty, history and recreational opportunities of California’s state parks rival anywhere in the world, and I can’t wait to see the amazing photos visitors capture when they’re out making memories in these special places,” said Marty Greenstein, deputy director for communications and marketing at California State Parks. “Whether you’re soaking up the sun at the beach, hiking through the redwoods, boating on a lake or immersing yourself in California history, I invite you to share your space by entering our photo contest on OuterSpatial.”
According to California State Parks, the contest follows the inaugural photo contest held last fall and coincides with the summer visitation season and California State Parks Week.
Participants may submit one photo in each of five categories:
- Heroes and Helpers
- Landscape and Legacy
- Living Wonders
- A Space for All
- A Wild Ride
The contest is hosted through the OuterSpatial app, which provides park information and maps. Winners will be selected in each category, and OuterSpatial users will be able to vote for a People’s Choice winner in each category.
Winners will be notified in October.

California State Parks manages the state park system and works with programs supported by the Office of Historic Preservation, the Division of Boating and Waterways, and the Division of Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation.
