Caltrans completes improvements on Highway 41

–Caltrans has completed the resurfacing of nearly nine lane miles of Highway 41 due to the funds from Senate Bill 1 (SB 1) the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017.

“Highway 41 is heavily used as a major east-west route for commuters and tourists in northern San Luis Obispo County who frequent the beaches, campgrounds and tourist attractions along the Central Coast. This resurfacing project will ensure a smooth ride and safe commute for everyone,” said Caltrans Director Laurie Berman.

An average of 11,000 vehicles per day use this section of the corridor to reach their destination and approximately 1,600 truckers use this segment of State Route 41 daily.

“Highway 41 in San Luis Obispo County is a major artery for many people who travel between the coast and the inland areas of the Central Coast. Our goal is to maintain our infrastructure to
prevent more costly maintenance repairs in the future,” said Caltrans District 5 Director Tim Gubbins.

The contractor for this $4.3 million project was Cal Portland Construction of San Luis Obispo, CA. More information and updates on projects can be found at http://www.dot.ca.gov/d5/ or on Twitter via @CaltransDist5.

SB 1 provides an ongoing funding increase of about $1.8 billion annually for the maintenance and rehabilitation of the state highway system. SB 1 funds will enable Caltrans to fix more than17,000 lane miles of pavement, 500 bridges and 55,000 culverts by 2027.

Caltrans is committed to conducting its business in a fully transparent manner and detailing its progress to the public. For complete details on SB 1, visit http://www.rebuildingca.ca.gov/.
