Candidates announce run for San Miguel CSD Board

–After receiving backing from numerous individuals, long time San Miguel residents Cesar Hernandez and Jorge Gomez have announced their plans to run for the San Miguel Community Services District Board.

The pair announced their plans to run after the CSD Board of Directors voted 3-2 to double rates. “There was no consideration of the public, despite one in three households signing a petition opposing the rate increase.” The pair said. “It is time to hold the CSD accountable, make them listen to the public and bring fresh ideas to better our community.”

The pair have lived in San Miguel for years, with Hernandez living in San Miguel for over 20 years and Gomez living in San Miguel for over 15 years. Hernandez was a 3rd class petty officer in the US Navy, while Gomez is a site tech in training.

When asked what their first priority would be when elected, they both responded that they would be lowering the water and sewer rates immediately, developing several policies to help residents cope with future rate increases, along with baring the board from ever trying to stop public comment on agenda items again.

When asked if the CSD should be dissolved, both Hernandez and Gomez agreed that having the county control San Miguel was a terrible idea. According to them, the county spent over one-million taxpayer dollars to add 3 feet of park space, and until 2000 the county controlled San Miguel’s water supply.

Hernandez and Gomez have also stated that when elected they will work towards beautifying the community, the efficient use of taxpayer money, and developing new water sources for San Miguel while keeping costs low.
