–14 nurses – eight from Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center and one from Twin Cities Community Hospital – traveled to Guadalajara recently in collaboration with Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara and California State University, Monterey Bay. The trip was part of their Global Health Course in their BSN program.

In the morning, the nurses conducted clinical rounds throughout different cities which included blood pressure screenings, height and weight measurements, and blood glucose testing. There were also physicians available in case patients needed to speak with a doctor or if their results were abnormal.

In the afternoon, the nurses attended classes at the university which included Spanish language curriculum and classes pertaining to health disparities and access in the Hispanic culture.

During the one-week trip, the nurses also had opportunities for cultural engagement at local museums and markets, and getting to know their host families.
