Central Coast Phillies expand with high school softball program
– The Central Coast Phillies, a Paso Robles-based athletic organization, will launch an 18-and-under showcase softball team aimed at helping high school athletes gain exposure to college coaches and recruiters.
The organization was founded in 2020 after the opening of its baseball facility in Paso Robles. Originally focused on baseball, the Phillies expanded into softball last year, fielding teams for athletes ages 9 to 13. Those teams competed in local and statewide tournaments and earned multiple top-two finishes.
Now, the organization will form a new team for high school athletes, from freshmen through seniors, with the goal of participating in four Northern California tournaments attended by college coaches. The team will be led by former college pitcher Elise Foster and supported by additional high school coaches from Paso Robles to Santa Maria.
“The goal of our showcase team will be to play in four Northern California tournaments where college coaches and recruits are guaranteed to be present,” said Foster. “We want our local athletes to begin their recruiting process with a hands-on approach. Meeting coaches, learning what to say and not say in emails and cultivating a relationship that we hope opens college opportunities for all local softball athletes.”
Tryouts for the showcase team will take place Saturday, Aug. 2, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Liberty High School in Paso Robles. To RSVP or ask questions, contact Foster at showcasephillies@gmail.com.
The Central Coast Phillies are also continuing open workouts for their 9- to 12-year-old softball teams. For more information, call (805) 835-5400.
