Central Coast winery awarded at ‘Toast of the Coast’

Award is competition’s, ‘Best of show’ designation L'Entree

–Twenty four judges sipped 694 wine entries on February 20-21, 2016, at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in San Diego for the annual The Toast of the Coast Wine Competition. Bon Niche Cellars, a boutique winery located in San Miguel, received Best of Paso Robles AVA, Best Malbec, double gold, 97 points and the highest award of the competition: The 2016 Toast of the Coast for their 2011 Bon Niche Cellars L’Entrée, Malbec.

Award levels include silver, gold, and double-gold. Awards also include the best wine of each varietal, the best wine from each region, and one wine selected as the “The Toast Of the Coast” the best of show award. Selected top performers are poured by the glass throughout the San Diego County Fair, a 25 day event in June held at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

“When director Rich Cook called to say he was just about to start a party at our winery, it was late in the afternoon and we were preparing to close,”said Joyce Murray, owner at Bon Niche Cellars.  “But he was right! If we had champagne we would have popped that cork to celebrate! Instead we opened the doors, cranked up the music and opened a bottle of 2011 L’Entrée. My husband, Wally was grinning from ear to ear.”

Bon Niche Cellars is in the rolling hills in the Hog Canyon region northeast of Paso Robles. The owners Wally and Joyce Murray operate the vineyard and winery and say they are pleased to have visitors, but request contacting them in advance for an appointment.
