Evening of fun includes food, music & duck derby

A fun evening of networking, food, wine, beer and prizes took place Wednesday at the Ravine Waterpark in Paso Robles as the Paso Robles Chamber held its May Membership Mixer. More than 200 Chamber members and their guests turned out dressed in Hawaiian attire to enjoy the festivities.

“This was a celebration of Chamber membership and the business community,” said Chamber Membership Director Julie Matthews. “It was a nice, relaxing, networking treat for our members.”

The response to the event was “overwhelming” according to Matthews. As for Ravine owner Brett Butterfield, Matthews said he gave freely of his time, energy, and generosity to feed the crowd and welcome them to his establishment weeks before it is due to open to the public. Sculpterra Winery and Firestone Brewery were on hand to pour beer and wine, the food was catered by Gilligan’s Grill at the Ravine, and Vance of Resination provided the music.

“Brett really pulled this together for us and, even though the park is not open, he and his staff made sure everything was ready to go for all to enjoy,” said Matthews.

For a buck a duck, those in attendance had the chance to float a rubber duck down the Ravine’s Lazy River in the popular Duck Derby, with proceeds going towards the renovation of the Visitor Center in downtown Paso Robles. Thirteen winners took home prizes donated by a variety of businesses including LXV Wines, The Spa Central Coast, and the Ravine Waterpark.

“The Chamber has been a big part of our success,” said Butterfield. “I like to help create relationships among the local businesses and this is my way of giving back.”

The Ravine Waterpark is set to open Memorial Day weekend, and is already filling requests for end of the year parties from dozens of schools in the area. Butterfield and his crew are once again offering their popular special — a 2014 Season Pass, available online for just $79 through May 31 for unlimited admission all summer. “That’s our way of taking care of our local customers,” said Butterfield.
