Charity event raises over one million for cancer patients
Funds will assist patients with medical and household expenses
– The fifth annual “Strike Out” Medical Financial Toxicity event hosted by SabesWings raised about $1.03 million Oct. 4 and 5 to support cancer patients facing financial hardship.
The charity organization, founded by 1985 World Series Most Valuable Player Bret Saberhagen and his wife, Kandace Saberhagen, held the two-day event in Paso Robles. The weekend included wine tastings, a seated gala dinner with silent auctions and live performances, and a charitable golf tournament.
This year’s event carried a Casino Royal theme to mark the 40th anniversary of Bret Saberhagen’s 1985 World Series MVP season with the Kansas City Royals. Guests participated in casino games during cocktail hour, playing for prizes while contributing to the cause.
