Charter academy seeks new community board members
– Almond Acres Charter Academy is seeking members of the public to serve on its Board of Directors. Two community board member openings are available for individuals interested in supporting the school’s mission to “grow great kids.”
Almond Acres Charter Academy opened 13 years ago in San Miguel and moved to its Paso Robles campus on Niblick Road in 2021. As a charter school, it operates independently from the Paso Robles Unified School District and is authorized by the San Luis Obispo County Office of Education. The school serves more than 500 students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
The academy states it achieves its mission by affirming students for their strengths and struggles, encouraging positive and productive habits of mind, and celebrating creativity. The Board has played a role in developing teaching and learning experiences for students and adults, working with parents and community partners to create on- and off-campus experiences that teach decision-making, problem-solving, invention, investigation, experimentation and systems analysis. The school refers to these methods as “creativity systems,” which it says help develop leaders and productive citizens.
The Paso Robles campus is a state-of-the-art facility designed to provide collaborative and creative space for teachers and students. School officials said the campus resulted from years of advocacy by board members seeking an alternative to traditional public schools.
Applications and role descriptions for the open positions are available on the school’s website.
