Baby’s Babble will be only children’s consignment shop in county

–As of Feb. 15, Baby’s Babble will reopen in Atascadero at 5935 Entrada Ave., where Thistle Do Nicely used to be located. The children’s resale shop has been located at 827 13th St. in Paso Robles since it opened.

Gabby Regalado purchased the shop with her husband, Sean, in February 2015. Her first day as the business’ owner was on Feb. 16, 2015. She said the first day Baby’s Babble will be open in Atascadero will be Tuesday, Feb. 16.

The Regalados moved to Atascadero in September 2014 to be closer to Gabby’s grandparents. “They just needed more family around them,” she said.

After being in business for a few months, Regalado said she knew that the location on 13th St. in the downtown wasn’t the right place for her business.

“I like Paso, but my store doesn’t make sense for this street,” she said. “My clientele is moms with kids. It’s difficult for them to find parking, and for them to get out of their cars with their baby gear.

She added that several people had said when they didn’t find parking near the store, they didn’t stop. She looked at locations from Paso Robles to Arroyo Grande, though she didn’t really look at Atascadero because Baby Bee Green was located in Atascadero. However, when it closed in mid-December 2015, she took another look at Atascadero.

Currently, Baby’s Babble and Back on the Racks in Atascadero are the only two children’s resale shops in the county. However, Back on the Racks owner Ivy Lizsow said once Baby’s Babble relocates across the street, she will stop carrying children’s clothes altogether. As of the beginning of the year, Back on the Racks stopped accepting children’s clothing for consignment.

“All the kids [consignment stores] have closed, which is the only reason I’ve kept the kids clothes,” said Lizsow, adding that she prefers to concentrate on women’s designer clothing, shoes and purses. “I take nice clothes, I don’t take clothes from any mart stores.”

Back on the Racks is located at 5920 Entrada Ave., directly across from where Baby’s Babble will go in. It is open Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Wednesday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Regalado said she will change her hours a bit when the store moves from Paso Robles to Atascadero. Currently, the store’s hours are 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. In Atascadero, it will open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

The store’s size will decrease a bit in overall size, although Regalado said it is wider than the Paso Robles location. The Atascadero store will also have a separate room that will be used for the Parent and Me support group that Regalado hosts for eight to 10 weeks at a time. The next session will begin Wednesday, March 2 and continue for a total of 10 weeks every Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Regalado provides coffee and snacks. The cost is $40 per parent and child pair for the entire 10 weeks or $5 per week on a drop-in basis. The support group is for parents with children under a year old.

The Paso Robles location will close on Feb. 6 in order to give Regalado a chance to move her inventory to Atascadero. The Regalados have two children, 2 and 4, which is the biggest reason Gabby decided owning a children’s resale store would be the best fit for her.
