    CHP identifies pedestrian killed on Highway 46 as Atascadero man 

    Incident occurred night of Oct. 26

    – The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified 26-year-old Emilio Garcia Mendoza of Atascadero as the man killed in a vehicle crash on Highway 46, according to a report by Bakersfield Now. The incident occurred on Oct. 26 around 8:41 p.m., east of Kecks Road.

    According to the California Highway Patrol, Mendoza was walking near the eastbound number one lane when he stepped directly into the path of a 2014 silver Lincoln Navigator driven by a 52-year-old Bakersfield man. The driver was unable to avoid Mendoza, striking him.

    The cause of the crash is under investigation, with alcohol or drugs suspected to be factors, according to the report.
