Citizens, leaders gather to discuss downtown parking in Paso Robles

–On Monday night, the Paso Robles Library Conference room filled with business owners, city leaders, and residents. The issue was parking in downtown Paso Robles.

The informational meeting generated input from business owners, residents and community leaders for the Paso Robles City Council. Most council members also attended, including Mayor Steve Martin and council members Jim Reed and John Hamon.

The big issue is “parking management”, particularly managing employee parking.

Some business owners said that by 9 a.m., 70-percent of the parking spaces around the downtown city park were taken- before retail stores opened. Many speakers said there needs to be a plan to manage employee parking.

Public Works Director Dick McKinley said that through striping the city has added 80 new parking spots in the past teo years.

On Tuesday night, the consultants who conducted the informational meeting will make a presentation to Paso Robles City Council.
