–Paso Robles City Manager Tom Frutchey announced a new Interim Fire Chief for the Department of Emergency Services. Jonathan Stornetta, whose career has included work for Paso Robles, Atascadero and Morro Bay Fire Departments, has been appointed to serve as Interim Fire Chief for the Paso Robles Fire Department while the City continues its recruitment efforts to permanently fill the position.

Stornetta began his career with the City of Atascadero Fire Department in the early 1990s as a Reserve Firefighter. In 1999, he became a Firefighter/Paramedic with the City of Morro Bay Fire Department, and in 2001, he did a lateral transfer and began his work for the City of Paso Robles Fire Department. Thereafter, he promoted to Fire Captain/Paramedic and then to Battalion Chief, and has now served the City and citizens of Paso Robles full-time for over 16 years.

Stornetta has been a paramedic for over 21 years, holds several incident command positions in the Planning Section, and is a member of a CAL FIRE Incident Management Team. Stornetta also participated on numerous committees for the San Luis Obispo Emergency Medical Services Agency for over 13 years.

On Monday, Oct. 2, Chief Stornetta was sworn into office by City Manager Tom Frutchey in a ceremony well attended by the City of Paso Robles City Council, staff, and Fire Chiefs from throughout the Central Coast. “The City is proud of Chief Stornetta and all he has accomplished during his career. His qualifications make him an ideal candidate to fill the Fire Chief position and I am confident that Jonathan will competently lead the Department of Emergency Services during this critical restructuring phase,” commented Frutchey.

Chief Stornetta will be tasked with implementing the restructuring of the Emergency Services Department as approved by the City Council on Oct. 3, which will further the department’s goals to create a robust fire prevention program, implement the newly approved Fire Prevention Specialist position, and someday, add a third fire station to more effectively serve the community.

The Stornetta family has resided in San Luis Obispo County for multiple generations and Stornetta remains active in his family roots of agriculture. Stornetta is a graduate of Atascadero High School and lives in the North County with his wife Lindsey and their two children.

The City of Paso Robles Fire Department is located at 900 Park Street, and can be reached at (805) 227-7560.
