City begins Riverside Avenue pedestrian improvements
Project will upgrade curb ramps and construct missing sidewalks
– The City of Paso Robles announced the start of pedestrian improvements on Riverside Avenue between 17th and 24th streets.
The project will upgrade existing curb ramps along the corridor and construct missing sidewalks.
According to the city, Riverside Avenue is included on the City Council-approved list of priority streets scheduled for repair and resurfacing using supplemental sales tax revenue. The roadway has an average Pavement Condition Index of 62 and is classified as being in fair condition.
The city said Riverside Avenue serves as an important pedestrian corridor, particularly during the California Mid-State Fair. The roadway provides access to and from the fairgrounds for residents and visitors, resulting in increased pedestrian activity during the event.
City officials said the curb ramp upgrades and roadway improvements are intended to improve pedestrian safety, accessibility, and mobility throughout the year and during major community events.
The project is primarily funded through a Community Development Block Grant program, which is providing approximately $330,200. The remaining project costs are funded through voter-approved supplemental sales tax revenue from Measures J-20 and I-24.
Construction will take place in phases to reduce disruptions during the California Mid-State Fair. The curb ramp and sidewalk improvements will be completed before the fair, while roadway grinding and overlay work will occur after the event.
Cen-Cal Construction is scheduled to begin work the week of June 1. Construction will pause on July 10 to prepare for the California Mid-State Fair and will resume the week of Aug. 3.
Residents seeking additional information about the project may contact the City of Paso Robles Public Works Department at (805) 237-3861.
