City continues evacuations of Salinas riverbed
The City of Paso Robles continues to implement its riverbank evacuation plan, exerting even greater urgency in light of continued rain. So far, six camps have been evacuated and cleared of all personal property with clean-up efforts to resume on Monday. On Friday, rising waters in the Salinas River stranded several campers, requiring assistance from a team of police and emergency services personnel and limiting the ability to access some campsites.
“Water has been steadily rising and continues as a significant hazard,” reports Paso Robles Police Lieutenant, Ty Lewis. “We are urging prompt self-evacuation of homeless in the area to avoid any further rescue situations due to fast-moving water.”
With periods of rain expected throughout the weekend, evacuees are especially encouraged to seek assistance from homeless support groups including Second Baptist Church at 1937 Riverside Ave. in Paso Robles, and Paso Cares — www.pasocares.org.
