City council discusses future of elections

Paso Robles City Council discussed creating districts for future elections. The council working with National Demographics Corporation to avoid a lawsuit by a Malibu-based attorney. Kevin Shenkman is suing municipalities around the state to force them to create districts for city council, school districts, airport districts and water districts.

So, the city will conduct public hearings to ascertain how the public would like to divide voters into four separate, but equally-populated districts. The first two public discussions will be held Dec. 5 and 10.

In closed session, the council discussed the proposed purchase of the Youth Correctional Facility on Airport Road. Mayor Steve Martin says the negotiations continue with the state.
