City Council hopefuls speak to Liberty High School students

Public SchoolsCandidates for the Paso Robles City Council spoke to students at Liberty High School during the week of Sept. 29 through Oct. 3, as part of the school’s government class curriculum.

The candidates were invited to speak to the students about their background and experience, their views on local government, their goals for the city, and how they might better engage the youth vote. Three candidates; Pam Avila, Steve Gregory, and John Hamon, accepted the offer to speak to the students.

Students in Ms. Kristin Guess’s class studied the platforms and backgrounds of all the candidates and conducted a mock election to determine their favorite candidate. Guess plans to have the students compare and contrast the three candidates’ presentations as well as discuss any changes of opinions after meeting the candidates in person.

In Oct., several Government and Associated Student Body students will hold a voter registration drive on campus for students who will reach voting age before Election Day in November.
