City discusses downtown parking

Paso Robles City Manager Tom Frutchey addresses the parking forum/

About 100 people turned out Wednesday for two public forums to discuss parking in downtown Paso Robles. The issue is the lack of parking spaces around the downtown city park. Local business people and residents conducted a forum at 8 a.m. Wednesday morning and again at 6 p.m. Wednesday evening. John Rausch hosted the parking forums at Park Cinemas.

Mainstreet’s Norma Moy talks about the parking problems. KSBY covered the forum.

City Manager Tom Frutchey described the findings by parking consultants who researched the parking issues in Paso Robles. Then, local business people talked about possible solutions including employee parking lots, timed parking, parking meters, and a parking garage. The city developed short, medium and long-term solutions to the parking situation. Park Cinemas John Rausch described counting 90 cars parked around the downtown city park at 9:30 in the morning, most of which belonged to employees and business owners working in the downtown area.

The city is going to implement some of the short-term parking solutions. They include educating downtown businesses about the problem of employees parking in the downtown area and identifying ways to reduce it.
