Update: City falls short of October water conservation goal

–Paso Robles did not conserve enough water to meet it’s October goal, according to a water conservation report given by Public Works Director Dick McKinley at Tuesday night’s Paso Robles City Council meeting. The city missed the mark by just two-percent. The city may be subject to fines of up to $500 per day for every day of October, totaling $15,500 according to McKinley. The state has issued fines to four other water providers, three cities and a water district, who didn’t meet their goals for multiple months.

–The City of Paso Robles is not on track to conserve enough water for the month of Oct. to meet the required conservation goals, according the Drought Conservation Progress Report given by Paso Robles Director of Public Works Dick McKinley at Tuesday night’s Paso Robles City Council meeting. This would be the first month that the city does not meet its goals. Citizens conserved enough water during summer months to meet the requirement. Mayor Steve Martin reminded citizens that water needs of landscaping is not as great in the fall months, and urged them to continue reducing their water use.

If the city does not meet the required cuts, it can be fined. On Aug. 4, the council decided to drop consideration of an ordinance that would have established penalty fees for excessive water use for single family residences that use more than 25 units of water monthly. The decision followed citizen protests against the ordinance at the prior council meeting.
