City of Paso Robles recognized as ‘JustServe City’

Paso Robles is one of approximately 150 cities nationwide designated

    – The City of Paso Robles was recognized as a JustServe City during the Paso Robles City Council meeting on Dec. 16, honoring the community’s commitment to volunteer service and civic cooperation.

Floyd Butterfield, San Luis Obispo County representative for JustServe, presented the recognition during the meeting. JustServe is a global volunteerism platform sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that connects individuals and groups with volunteer opportunities. The service is free and open to civic, faith-based, and nonprofit organizations.

JustServe operates through a website where organizations post volunteer needs, and individuals search for opportunities to support their communities. According to its guidelines, the service does not discriminate based on race, religion, gender, ethnicity, or sexual orientation.

“JustServe exists to spread hope, goodness, and unity through volunteer service,” Butterfield said during his presentation. “Paso Robles exemplifies those values.”

Butterfield, whose family has lived in Paso Robles for nearly 60 years, highlighted several large-scale volunteer projects completed in partnership with the City’s Parks and Recreation Department. He said approximately 70 volunteers spread mulch at Larry Moore Park, completing work originally expected to take a full day in about 90 minutes. About 130 volunteers served simultaneously at Centennial Park and Uptown Family Park earlier this year. In October, 20 Paso Robles High School students from the newly formed JustServe High School Club completed a mulch project at Veterans Park, also known as Sherwood Park.

Butterfield said the projects required coordination and support from City staff, including advance planning, delivery of materials, and the assignment of personnel to work directly with volunteers.

“There is a clear commitment from the City to engage community volunteers in a meaningful way,” Butterfield said. “That partnership is what makes projects of this scale successful.”

Paso Robles is one of approximately 150 cities nationwide designated as a JustServe City. The recognition honors municipalities that demonstrate an ongoing commitment to volunteerism and measurable positive impact within their communities.

The City received a certificate acknowledging its efforts to unite the community through service, cooperation, and goodwill.

“Volunteerism is deeply woven into the fabric of Paso Robles,” Butterfield said. “As someone who grew up here, I’m grateful to be part of a community that continues to serve one another.”
