City of Paso Robles warns residents about drinking water scam
– The City of Paso Robles is warning residents about a drinking water scam involving people going door to door and claiming the city’s water supply is contaminated.
According to city officials, the scammers tell residents that city tap water is contaminated with wastewater or recycled water, a claim that is false. Paso Robles officials said city tap water is not contaminated and is safe for drinking and use. The water supply is regularly tested to ensure it meets all health and safety standards.
The scammers have urged residents to avoid using or drinking city tap water without additional treatment. In some cases, they use a water test that appears to show contamination, then attempt to sell water treatment devices based on misleading claims.
Residents are reminded that information about water quality will only come from official city communication channels. Questions about water safety should be directed to the Paso Robles Utilities Department at (805) 237-3864.
Anyone who experiences suspicious or unsafe interactions is asked to report them to the Paso Robles Police Department’s non-emergency line at (805) 237-6464, or call 911 in an emergency.
