Registration still open for free chipping program
– The San Luis Obispo County Fire Safe Council, in partnership with Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services, is offering a free chipping program to help residents create and maintain the 100-foot defensible space required around homes and structures.
The program is funded by the State of California and supports wildfire preparedness by removing hazardous vegetation. A local, licensed, and insured contractor will chip properly stacked material and haul it away.
Chipping service will take place Sept. 22-23 and is limited to properties located within the moderate to high fire hazard severity zones. A map of eligible areas is available on the city’s wildfire preparedness website.
Registration is open for the first 50 properties. Officials encourage residents to sign up before building their piles to make sure material meets program requirements.
Program details, including guidelines, stacking requirements, and sample photos, are available at www.chipperday.com/slofsc, where reservations can also be made.
