Grant will fund new Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons at Montebello Oaks and Union Road

    – The City of Paso Robles has been awarded $380,530 in funding from the Caltrans Cycle 12 Highway Safety Improvement Program grant to enhance pedestrian safety.

The grant will fund new Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons at Montebello Oaks and Union Road, as well as Nickerson Drive at the Centennial Trail crossing. Existing flashing beacons will be upgraded at the intersections of Spring Street with 17th and 21st streets. These improvements will be similar to the flashing beacon already installed on Spring Street at 11th Street.

“We are thrilled to receive this grant and look forward to implementing these safety measures,” Interim City Manager Chris Huot said. “By leveraging these funds, we can continue to prioritize pedestrian safety and make important improvements that benefit our community.”

The grant will also support signal upgrades at Golden Hill and Creston Road, covering 50% of costs. These upgrades will include adaptive signal control with advanced dilemma zone detection to improve traffic flow and safety.

The grant will cover up to 90% of the overall project costs, according to the city.
