City receives over $1 million in federal highway administration grants
Money will be used on Union Road and 24th Street Bridge projects
–The City of Paso Robles’ Public Works Capital Improvements Division has announced that two grants have been received from the Federal Highway Administration, and will be administered via the San Luis Obispo Council of Governments and Caltrans local assistance.
A grant of $877,000 has been awarded towards the improvement and rehabilitation of Union Road, from Golden Hill to Highway 46 East right-of-way. This grant will supplement the budget that was adopted by the Paso Robles City Council using supplemental sales tax. With this grant, the project may now move forward with construction later this summer of 2016.
A grant of $477,000 has been awarded towards the first phase of improvements for the 24th Street bridge, over the railroad. The grant will be used to prepare preliminary engineering for upgrades to this bridge and to provide safe pedestrian access. Upgrades and improvements to this bridge is much-needed to provide safe access for pedestrians, particularly since this bridge is used by many pedestrians during the mid-state fair, according to public works.
