Mary Baron paid vet bills for transient’s injured dog

Mary Baron thanked for service to community.

–At the Paso Robles City Council meeting on June 21, Emergency Services Administrative Assistant Mary Baron was recognized for her kindness and generosity. Baron assisted a female transient by taking her injured dog to the vet and paid for the animals x-rays and surgery out of her own pocket.

The woman, who had been living in the neighborhood for a few months, sleeping at a nearby church, approached Baron and asked her if she could arrange for a vet to see her dog. Baron determined the animal had been struck by a vehicle and was injured, and the stranger was seemingly unable to contact or afford care for her companion. Baron understood the dire situation the woman was facing, called her vet for an immediate appointment, and authorized payment for x-rays and surgery out of her own pocket. Baron later received word from the vet that the dog was out of surgery and was doing fine.

Baron was recognized by the city for unselfishly placing this woman’s needs before her own. Her genuine compassion and generosity towards the community, especially those in need, is the ultimate example of human kindness.

What a wonderful thing to do.

    Mary Baron

Hi, I just wanted to add an update to this story. Stacks the dog did not have surgery other than being anesthetized for his exam and x-rays. He was thought to perhaps have a hernia, but was expected to make a full recovery. He was scheduled for a follow up exam a few days after his initial visit; unfortunately despite very good care by the vet, he ended up passing away which was very sad for all involved. It's lovely to be recognized, but frankly, I don't think this should be news. It was just a neighbor helping out a neighbor, and I like to think anyone would have done same thing under the circumstances. Mary Baron

Thank you Mary Baron for your kindness to both Stacks and his owner. And thank you to the Paso City council for publicly recognizing this very special citizen. So sorry for the homeless woman who lost her companion – just wondering…did the vet assist with some of the expenses?

Mary Baron, we truly thank you and wish there were hundreds more of you out there! Yes, it is just what we do, sometimes not everyone is in the financial position to do the right thing, but for those that are, it was a heartfelt gift. You and probably others out there are some of the angles for animals and people. Thank you Mary Baron!

Mary Baron, you are wonderful. I believe those who choose to help those who have less are the people who teach others. Kindness is rare and for me, it restores my faith that we all will learn lessons in humanity. Thank you for being a wonderful example. rip Stacks and hope for the man who is probably pretty lonely right now. I hope life will start looking up for him.
