City staff, public safety agencies are committed to ‘safe, orderly’ Women’s Rally

–Working closely with the organizers of Saturday’s Women’s Rally in downtown San Luis Obispo, city staff and local public safety agencies are taking proactive steps to ensure the event is safe and orderly for everyone involved, city officials announced today.

“The City is grateful for the community’s cooperation in ensuring last year’s event was respectful for all involved and is working hard to ensure another safe, orderly and peaceful event,” said City Manager Derek Johnson. “As the organizers have planned for this year’s event to be a rally centered in Mission Plaza, there will be no march route and we anticipate minimal unintentional impact on neighbors, businesses and visitors to our downtown area.”

Beginning at 9 a.m., street closures surrounding the event space (Mission Plaza) will be in effect. The “dog-leg” section of Broad Street (from Broad and Palm to the North and Broad and Monterey to the South) will be closed until 5 p.m., or as soon as possible after the Rally ends.

Police Chief Deanna Cantrell said, “The Police Department will be in place Saturday and is committed to another safe and peaceful event. We are once again asking for the public’s help in assuring everyone’s rights are respected.”

Details of the planned Women’s Rally San Luis Obispo:
