City to host Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration, service

The focus of this year’s celebration will be to honor Dr. King’s legacy while also highlighting his enduring call to service.

    – The City of Paso Robles will host the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Celebration and Service on Monday, Jan. 19, with a community gathering and service projects scheduled throughout the morning.

The day will begin with a community celebration from 9 to 10 a.m. near the gazebo at Downtown City Park, located at 11th and Park streets. The event will include guest speakers and musical performances focused on the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

Following the celebration, community members may participate in one of two 90-minute service projects from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Volunteers may choose between a care package service project at the Paso Robles City Library at 1000 Spring St. or a mulch beautification service project at Robbins Field at 626 7th St.

All registered service project volunteers will receive a commemorative gift and are invited to attend a volunteer luncheon prepared by the Paso Robles Lions Club.

Service project registration is available online at www.prcity.com/mlk. Volunteers may also register in person at the Centennial Park registration desk at 600 Nickerson Drive, Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m.
