City works to close funding gap for Fourth of July celebration
Officials look for sponsors to cover Fourth of July costs
– Paso Robles officials are working to secure funding for this year’s Fourth of July celebration at Barney Schwartz Park after budget adjustments increased the event’s projected costs, according to a report by KSBY.
The city’s base budget is $100,000, with $65,000 from the city council and $35,000 from Travel Paso. With recent budget reductions, the cost is expected to reach $160,000. Officials plan to reach out to community partners to bridge the gap.
Last year, fewer sponsors contributed, and organizers used leftover funds from previous years. With those funds now depleted, officials are considering shortening the event and reducing live music from two bands to one.
Private security, traffic control, and staff holiday pay contribute to costs. Officials say private security was considered for cuts but remains necessary for event safety.
The city is primarily looking to cover the cost of the fireworks show. Once applications close, city council members will select vendors and a band.
