Folks like Robert Belflower of Paso Robles and his father, Gerald Belflower of Hanford, took in the sights as they fielded questions from passersby curious about their fully restored 1969 Camaro and 1956 Chevy 210.

“It’s great to come out here, look at the cars, talk to everyone, and just enjoy everything that’s out here,” said Gerald. “We get a lot of people stopping by to see our cars and asking questions; it’s a lot of fun.”

The number one question they are asked – “how much do you actually drive this car?” – has the father and son team explaining their take on owning classics.

“These are what you call daily drivers,” said Robert. “I didn’t build them as show cars, I built them to enjoy daily.”

As for participating in the car show, Robert said, “I just love to come out here and see everybody’s ideas and to see what other people have come up with to restore their cars.”

For a number of years, the Golden State Classics Car Club hosted a car show every Labor Day weekend in Paso Robles. As of a couple of years ago, the club co-hosted the event with the local Chamber of Commerce, with the 2015 show given support from the City of Paso Robles.

All types of pre-1979 classic cars, from Chevys, Fords, Dodges and more were admired as they cruised down Spring Street Friday night “in all their chrome-plated and fuzzy-diced splendor,” according to show organizers. On Saturday, the cars filled the downtown city park and the surrounding streets – more than 300 in all. All net proceeds from the car show will be donated to local charities.
