Collision reported at highway intersection in Shandon
–On Saturday at 7:09 p.m., 42-year-old Paso Robles man Christopher Moen, who was driving a Dodge Ram pickup, was stopped at the intersection of Centre Street and Highway 46/41 East in Shandon, waiting to turn left. 55-year-old Selma California woman Eva Vasquez was driving a Toyota Tacoma eastbound on 46/41 East in the outer lane at a speed of 65 mph. Moen reported that he didn’t see traffic approaching from the eastbound lanes and proceeded forward into the intersection. Vasquez said she saw the Dodge move forward heading towards her lane and applied her vehicle’s brakes. Moen’s pickup continued into the outer lane of eastbound SR 46 East. Vasquez tried to steer to the left in order to avoid a collision, but the left/front end of the Dodge Ram struck the right/front end, of the Toyota Tacoma, according to California Highway Patrol.
This collision caused major damage and disabled both vehicles in the eastbound lanes. Templeton Area CHP units arrived to manage the scene and investigate the collision. Cal Fire and San Luis Ambulance tended to the injured while San Luis Obispo Sheriff units assisted with traffic control. All parties were wearing seatbelts and the 4-year old juvenile was properly secured in a child seat during the collision. All parties in the Toyota Tacoma were transported to Twin Cities Community Hospital. Moen refused medical treatment.
Speed, cell phone usage, and DUI are not considered factors in this collision, CHP says.
