– On Wednesday evening, June 5, this writer and his wife hosted an in-home wine-tasting event in Woodland Hills, Calif., with Maggie Tillman, co-proprietor of Alta Colina Vineyards and Winery, and Molly Lonborg, winemaker. Many of the 30 guests were familiar with Paso Robles and Alta Colina; however, quite a few weren’t, and this was a great way to introduce Alta Colina wines in a casual, intimate setting. An assortment of seven Alta Colina wines were poured, giving an excellent overview of Alta Colina’s selections.
Alta Colina first planted vines in 2005, and their 2007 vintage was introduced in 2009 at Paso Wine Fest Weekend. Since then, Alta Colina has been recognized as one of Paso Robles’ most respected estate-producing wineries, focusing on Rhone varietals.
Molly, with her captivating personality, took the wine group on a journey through the unique lineup. The selection included a lively “Pet Nat” bubbles and a delightful carbonic Grenache, both of which were huge hits. Other standouts included a GSM, a 2016 Library selection Old 900 Syrah, plus a canned Rose, a perfect companion for summertime concerts and picnics. These wines, along with other specially selected bottles, added a distinct flavor to the evening.
In addition to the Alta Colina lineup, Molly poured samples of her recently released label “Little Soul,” a Rose of Pinot Noir, and carbonic Pinot Noir.
The evening proceeded with lively, engaging conversation and laughter. Guests had the unique opportunity to mingle and sit down with Molly and Maggie, learning more about
Paso Robles Wine Country and Alta Colina. For those with a deeper (geeky) interest, the event provided a platform to delve into more vineyard and winemaking specifics, making the event a truly interactive and enriching experience.
This was a celebration of what makes Paso Robles wines so unique.
Molly and Maggie’s journey from Paso Robles to the San Fernando Valley for an evening of wine is a testament to their passion and dedication. It speaks volumes about Alta Colina’s commitment to introducing more people to its brand and promoting the uniqueness of Paso Robles Wine Country, the wines, the people, and the culture.
