During the drive 245 boxes of tampons, which totaled 9,154 individual tampons, and 236 boxes of pads which totaled 7,379 individual pads were collected.

–Feminine hygiene products are some of the most needed items at shelters, yet they are also some of the least donated. The Commission on the Status of Women sounded the call to action to help women and girls in need of access to feminine hygiene products. A product drive for homeless women and girls was held on Dec. 4, 2018 where sealed boxes of tampons and pads were collected at the County Government Building Center in San Luis Obispo and at El Camino Homeless Organization (ECHO) in Atascadero.

During the drive 245 boxes of tampons, which totaled 9,154 individual tampons, and 236 boxes of pads which totaled 7,379 individual pads were collected.

A few comments from those who donated stated: “I forgot how much these cost!” Another stated: “You know, I have never had to worry about this in my life;” to this statement, a client said “Oh, I worry about it every month.”

All donations benefited El Camino Homeless Organization (ECHO) a homeless services organization. ECHO empowers people throughout San Luis Obispo County to make positive change by providing food, shelter, and support services. The out pouring of support was so great, they will be sharing donations with other homeless shelters throughout San Luis Obispo County.
