    – The Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County awarded $460,148 in scholarships to local students during the 2025-26 scholarship cycle, supporting educational programs ranging from trades and aviation to science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics, health care, and returning students.

According to the foundation, 100 scholarship awards were granted to students representing 12 high schools and local colleges across San Luis Obispo County. Individual awards reached up to $20,000.

Nearly 350 students submitted applications during the scholarship cycle, representing a 41% increase in applicants. The foundation said new scholarship software allows students to complete one application that automatically matches them with eligible opportunities. Close to 100 community evaluators reviewed applications.

Scholarships were awarded to students from schools including Paso Robles High School, San Luis Obispo High School, Nipomo High School, Arroyo Grande High School, and Morro Bay High School, as well as students attending Cuesta College, Allan Hancock College, and universities across the country.

The foundation said students are pursuing higher education in fields including science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics, medicine, nursing, and health care. Cal Poly and Cuesta College were among the institutions selected by recipients.

Among the scholarships awarded were the Richard J. Weyhrich Leadership Awards, which recognize graduating seniors who demonstrate leadership and community involvement. Established in 2006, the program has awarded more than $800,000 to more than 290 students during the past 20 years.

This year, 11 students will each receive a $4,000 award.

One of the recipients is Jared Aguilera, a senior at Nipomo High School who plans to pursue a career in medicine. According to the foundation, Aguilera founded an outreach program connecting younger students with college pathways and has held leadership roles on campus.

The foundation said it administers more than 50 scholarship funds created by donors to support local students.

More information about scholarship programs, recipients, and scholarship funds is available at Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County.

Founded in 1998, Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County said it has awarded more than $80 million in grants and scholarships and manages more than $100 million in charitable assets.
