Community group donates $3,000 to Templeton Library

Grant supports books and materials for North County readers

    – The Paso Robles Elks Lodge donated $3,000 to Templeton Library to support the purchase of books and materials, library officials announced.

On Friday, trustee Barbara Hofer presented the check on behalf of Paso Robles Elks Lodge #2364. The funds will be used to enhance the library’s Children, Young Adult, and Fiction collections. Library Vice President and Collection Manager Nancy Whitt accepted the donation.

Templeton Library is located across the street from Templeton High School and is an all donor-funded public library serving the broader North County area.

Although Templeton residents pay 1.6% of their property taxes for county library services, Templeton Library does not receive county taxpayer funds. Those tax dollars instead support 14 other county library branches.

Because the library does not receive taxpayer funding, it is excluded from access to state and federal grant programs. The Templeton Community Library Association, the nonprofit organization that operates Templeton Library, has submitted a request to San Luis Obispo County to review the funding inequity.
