Congressman visits local horse sanctuary
– U.S. Representative Jimmy Panetta (CA-19) visited Redwings Horse Sanctuary last week on July 5, braving the hot temperatures in Paso Robles to take a tour of the nonprofit horse rescue. Panetta met some of the sanctuary’s equine residents and learned about the GFAS-accredited (Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries) nonprofit and its mission to rescue abused, abandoned, and neglected equines.
Panetta showed compassion for the plight of suffering equines and asked numerous questions, including the history of Redwings, the criteria for accepting rescues, and how Redwing’s adoption process works, according to the sanctuary.
“Across the nation, there are many abused and neglected horses, ponies, donkeys, mules, and burros that are suffering and in need of care and sanctuary,” said Panetta. “Fortunately, Redwings Horse Sanctuary right here in Paso Robles provides the resources to rescue some of these animals and give them with refuge, medical assistance, and a pathway to adoption. I’m proud to join my predecessor Sam Farr by supporting Redwings and all that they do to prevent equine suffering across this country, and as a testament for our love and care for animals in our community.”
To learn more about Redwings, go to its website, www.redwingshorsesanctuary.org. Redwings can also be found on Facebook and Instagram.
A way to support the sanctuary is to consider attending the 4th Annual Redwings Block Party Fundraiser, held at the sanctuary on Sunday, Sept. 29, from 11-3. Tickets are available through My805Tix.com.
