Construction begins on Sherwood Park improvements

City leaders mark the start of construction on long-awaited park upgrades
– Paso Robles Mayor John Hamon, along with City Councilmembers Fred Strong, Steve Gregory, and Kris Beal, joined representatives from the City of Paso Robles’ Parks and Recreation Advisory Body, the pickleball community, and city staff to celebrate the start of construction on improvements at Sherwood Park on Wednesday, March 26.
City Manager Chris Huot, Mayor Hamon, and Paso Robles Pickleball Ambassador Larry Werner spoke about the significance of the project before participating in a ceremonial groundbreaking with gold shovels. Diane Zannotti, a congressional aide to Congressman Jimmy Panetta, presented a proclamation to Mayor Hamon recognizing the project’s anticipated impact on the community.

Others in attendance included Reilly Newman from the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, Daniel Rodriguez from the Senior Citizen Advisory Committee, Craig Lea from the Paso Robles Pickleball Club, Bill Saylor from the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, and Community Services Director Angelica Fortin.
The Sherwood Park improvements will include seven new lighted pickleball courts, a picnic and shade area with barbecues, new restrooms, and a large parking lot. Construction is expected to be completed in 2026.
