Construction underway on new high school swimming pool

A design plan for the Paso Robles High School aquatics facility, aimed for completion in November 2025.

Project expected for completion in 2025

The new Paso Robles High School (PRHS) aquatic facility has recently reached a new stage in construction with large scale site digging beginning within the past few weeks. The pool is expected to be completed in November 2025.

“I would like the community to know that this pool focuses on expanding access to aquatic programs for all students in PRJUSD and providing opportunities, including and beyond the high school programs. With the completion of this aquatic center, Paso Robles High School Athletic Programs will once again have a competitive facility on par with neighboring schools like Morro Bay, Atascadero, and San Luis Obispo. We will also be able to host swim meets for the first time in over ten years and host postseason swim meets and water polo games for both men and women,” said PRHS Athletic Director Michael Sauret.

A planning design of the PRHS aquatic facility, which will be located next to the tennis courts.

The construction bid for the aquatic facility was approved by the PRJUSD school board in February 2024 with a vote of 5-2, with votes against by trustees Kenny Enney and Dorian Baker. The initial design phase for the facility began in 2016; construction began in March 2024 with local company Harris Construction.

“At this time, several ideas exist around providing the community with the opportunity to use the aquatic center. Some ideas include an under-18 swim team, lap swimming, open swim time in the summer, and a masters swim team [for] 18 years and over,” Sauret said.

The facility, which will include the 40-meter pool, will be located in between the PRHS student parking lot and agriculture career and technical education (CTE) buildings and west of the tennis courts.

“The aquatics community is very excited to have this new facility to expand interest in aquatics in Paso Robles,” Sauret said.
