Correctional deputy assaulted by inmate at county jail 

The inmate has been identified as 27-year-old Joseph Allen Baker of Nipomo.

–On Tuesday, an inmate at the San Luis Obispo County Jail physically assaulted a 26-year-old Correctional Deputy.

As the Correctional Deputy was gathering inmates to take them to another part of the jail, one of the inmates charged at the Correctional Deputy and began punching him multiple times around the head and face, according to the jail. The Correctional Deputy was able to subdue the inmate while other deputies arrived at the location to assist.

The Correctional Deputy was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. He is recovering in the hospital with a broken nose and a broken orbital bone.

The inmate has been identified as 27-year-old Joseph Allen Baker of Nipomo. He was in the County Jail after being arrested by Paso Robles Police on Feb. 25, 2018, for violating his parole and for obstructing/resisting an officer.

Baker was re-arrested and is now facing new charges of assault on a peace officer.
