Council approves new tech space for entrepreneurs, ‘The Sandbox’

MindBody co-founder Blake Beltram talks with Dale McGee about the Business Success Center.

–Tuesday night, the Paso Robles City Council unanimously approved a Business Success Center to be located at 1345 Park Street. Among the proponents, the co-founder of MindBody Software Company in San Luis Obispo. Blake Beltram spoke to the council about the benefits to the community for a “Sandbox” work space for tech entrepreneurs.

Dale McGee worked with the city to develop the Business Success Center. She explained the financial arrangement with the city, which includes a loan for $300,000 and a grant for $99,500. The Business Success Center will pay its own rent at 1345 Park Street. The loan would be repaid with 3-percent interest, a rate higher than the city’s average earnings on
its investment portfolio

Kyle Ashby of the Sandbox in Santa Barbara described to the council how the Business Success Center will create a working space for entrepreneurs in tech industries. Ashby said he is familiar with Paso Robles because his wife is from the area, and he’s spent a lot of time in the North County.

Councilman Fred Strong shared about his long history in developing the tech industry in the Silicon Valley. He said there’s nowhere for them to grow, so the Business Success Center may attract more tech industries to Paso Robles.

Mayor Steve Martin said, “This Business Success Center represents something that is core to the city of Paso Robles and that is our history of being pioneers. People came here and broke the ground where it had never been broken before. And over the last 130 years turned it into what we love today. This is our opportunity as city council members to pioneer the future of Paso Robles.”

The council unanimously approved the financial arrangements with Kaldera Collective LLC (The Sandbox) to develop the Business Success Center in Paso Robles.
