County airport shares travel guidance ahead of holidays
Airport encourages passengers to arrive two hours before departure
– The San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport is preparing to welcome an anticipated increase in passengers as the holiday travel season begins.
Supervisor Dawn Ortiz-Legg stated, “This is one of the most joyful and active times of year at our airport. Our community is fortunate to have a team committed to providing exceptional service, and I know they are ready to help ensure residents and visitors alike enjoy safe and seamless holiday travel.”
Director of Airports Courtney Johnson said, “The San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport team is fully prepared for the holiday rush, and we look forward to welcoming travelers through our doors. Our staff takes great pride in creating a warm, positive experience—from curb to gate—and we encourage everyone to arrive early and enjoy the festive atmosphere.”
The airport encourages travelers to plan ahead and arrive early. The airport recommends arriving at least two hours before scheduled departure to allow time for parking, check-in, and security screening. Travelers are advised to check flight status with their airline before heading to the airport, as winter weather and peak travel volumes may affect schedules. The airport also suggests considering alternate transportation, such as rideshare, carpooling, or public transit, to help ease parking demand.
Travelers are asked to prepare for parking, as holiday travel brings increased parking demand. Passengers should allow extra time to park and review parking options and availability in advance.
To navigate security more easily, travelers are advised to review Transportation Security Administration guidelines before packing. Wrapped gifts may need to be opened during screening, so travelers are encouraged to use gift bags or packing materials. Solid foods are generally allowed in carry-on bags, while liquids or gels over 3.4 ounces should be placed in checked luggage.
The airport encourages travelers to stay connected by charging devices before arriving and downloading their airline’s app for updates, mobile boarding passes, and gate information.
Travelers are reminded to practice patience and courtesy, as the holidays are a busy time for passengers and staff.
The airport invites travelers to arrive early to view the holiday décor inside the terminal. Guests are encouraged to visit the Ah Louis Store Outpost before security and the SBPaws therapy dog program, which will welcome guests each day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
