County Farm Bureau alerts local employers about immigration activity
Enforcement may expand to San Luis Obispo County operations, says Farm Bureau
– The San Luis Obispo County Farm Bureau has alerted members of the agricultural community to confirmed immigration enforcement activity that took place Wednesday in Ventura County. The Farm Bureau stated that similar operations may extend into San Luis Obispo County.
The notification was sent Thursday morning in response to ongoing enforcement efforts and rising concern following related actions in the Los Angeles area.
“We send this email to alert you of confirmed ICE activity in Ventura County against agricultural operations that took place yesterday,” said Paul E. Clark, executive director of the San Luis Obispo County Farm Bureau. “We want to make sure ag employers and employees are informed of their rights.”
Two documents were included with the notice. Provided by Patrick Moody, an attorney with The Employers’ Law Firm in Fresno, the first document outlines steps employers and employees should take if immigration or border patrol agents arrive at agricultural fields or facilities.
“Our goal in sharing this information is to reduce the tension and anxiety in the agricultural community,” Clark said. “Know your rights and advise your employees of their rights. Please understand the information below is general information and should not be construed as legal advice. If you have questions about your particular situation, please consult an attorney.”
