County seeks input on improving 101 corridor

SLOCOG

A series of three public workshops will be held by the San Luis Obispo Council of Governments (SLOGOG) during the week of Jan. 27 to present the results of the first phase of public outreach and initial studies examining possible improvements along US Highway 101.

The initial phase of the study reviewed the entire 70 miles of US 101 in San Luis Obispo County and evaluated it on 11 performance measures including safety, access, congestion and travel time as well as public input.

That effort helped narrow the study to four focus study areas, two of which impact the North County:

  • Segment 1 – An 8.7 mile segment thru the Five Cities area that extends from the northbound off-ramp for Exit 186 (Traffic Way) to the northbound on-ramp from Avila Beach Road
  • Segment 2 – A 4.5 mile segment thru the SLO area that extends from Los Osos Valley Road interchange to Monterey street interchange
  • Segment 3 – An 8.8 mile segment thru Atascadero that extends from Santa Barbara Road interchange to Vineyard Drive interchange
  • Segment 4 – A 4.4 mile segment thru Paso Robles that extends from Spring Street (south) interchange to Spring Street (north) interchange

The open house events will give the public an opportunity to review the challenges and opportunities for improvements in each segment. They will be held as follows:

  • Central County – Monday, Jan. 27 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Ludwick Community Center at 64 Santa Rosa Street in SLO.
  • South County – Wednesday, Jan. 29 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Pismo Beach City Council Chambers at 760 Mattie Road in Pismo Beach.
  • North County – Thursday, Jan. 30 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Atascadero City Council Rotunda at 6500 Palma Ave. in Atascadero.
