County to extend Paso Robles groundwater restrictions

Daou vineyards

–A 6-year-old county policy requiring farmers with new crops over the Paso Robles Groundwater Basin to offset their water use may be extended, according to a report by the New Times.

County supervisors will consider extending the ordinance at a board meeting on June 18. The move has the support of both basin supervisors—1st District Supervisor John Peschong and 5th District Supervisor Debbie Arnold.

North County leaders are in the process of adopting a basin-wide sustainability plan, however that process may take a few more years, according to the report. In the meantime, the extension of the moratorium would prevent a “gap” in regulation.
