County to host virtual meeting on regional desalination plan
Online survey open for feedback
– The San Luis Obispo County Flood Control and Water Conservation District is inviting public input on its Desalination Executable Solution and Logistics (DESAL) Plan, a multi-phase effort to study the potential for a regional desalination project.
The plan is being developed in partnership with other local agencies with water supply planning responsibilities. Officials said the initiative is part of a broader strategy to ensure a resilient, drought-proof water supply for San Luis Obispo County.
With support from a U.S. Bureau of Reclamation WaterSMART grant, the District and its partners have begun work on the DESAL Plan Feasibility Study. Residents are encouraged to complete an online survey, available at slocounty.ca.gov/DesalSurvey, to share input on regional water resources, priorities, and potential solutions.
The District will also host a virtual community engagement session Sept. 15 at 5 p.m. The meeting will provide information about the feasibility study, gather input on regional water resources and solicit perspectives on ocean desalination.
The session will be held via Zoom. Community members can join by visiting slocounty.ca.gov/desal, clicking the Zoom meeting link, and entering Meeting ID 810 3110 0374 and Password 706431. Participants can also join by phone by dialing (669) 900-6833 and entering the same meeting ID and password.
For more information, residents can join the DESAL Plan email list, submit public comments, or view project materials at slocounty.ca.gov/DESAL.
