County transit authority wants your opinions

The San Luis Obispo Regional Transit Authority (RTA) and San Luis Obispo (SLO) Transit launched an information and opinion gathering survey as part of a joint Short Range Transit Plan (SRTP) study currently underway. The plan is part of their ongoing effort to improve the transit system, and it provides direction for the transit agencies in planning system growth and responding to needed changes in the next five to seven years.

All SLO community members are welcome to participate in this short survey. The survey can be found here and will be available through April 8.

On-bus surveys to gather information and perceptions from current riders have recently concluded and now the partners are seeking input from both riders and non-riders alike. In addition to on-bus surveys and the online survey, SLO Regional Rideshare will support the project by gathering input from many of the county’s largest employers.

“Right now RTA provides almost one million trips a year and SLO Transit transports over 1.1 million riders annually. Overall ridership on SLO County transit systems is increasing every year, and traffic in the county and cities continues to increase, often motivating people to change their habits or attitudes about riding transit,” said RTA Executive Director Geoff Straw. “This survey will help us find out what riders and non-riders want to help make our transit systems as useful as possible. This survey is a great opportunity for the community to have influence on our transit systems.”

“As our county grows, transit plays an increasingly vital role in helping riders reach their destinations and in reducing traffic on our roads. This survey and the SRTP study are a critical part of our planning, and we hope everyone who drives or rides on our roads participates.” said Transit Manager Gamaliel Anguiano.

The contract for the SRTP Study was awarded to LSC Transportation Consultants by the San Luis Obispo Council of Governments after an open bidding process concluded. Funds for this study are from a federal small urban transit planning grant that was awarded to SLOCOG and is being administered through Caltrans local assistance.
