COVID-19 Update: SLO County report 38 new cases added over the weekend
–The County of San Luis Obispo has added 38 cases of COVID-19 since the last update on Friday as of 1:30 p.m. Seven people are now hospitalized, with three in the ICU.
The historical total number of cases is now at 442. The county reports 322 people have recovered from the virus, 112 are currently recovering at home. One person has died from the virus. The county reports 120 active cases. Click here for the latest statistics.
Weekly SLO County COVID-19 case statistics update from the County of San Luis Obispo
–County health officials urge residents to take more protective measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 as the cases rise at a faster rate in San Luis Obispo County.
The County Public Health Department reported 38 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend and Monday in all regions of SLO County. The new cases can be attributed mostly to person-to-person spread (contacts of other known cases), including spread at social gatherings of friends and family, and community spread.
“As expected, SLO County’s COVID-19 positivity rate is increasing as we expand testing and continue to open for business,” said Dr. Penny Borenstein, County Health Officer. “Consistent with the Governor’s order, please limit large social gatherings where the virus can easily spread and wear a face-covering in public as we continue opening under the state’s plan.”
San Luis Obispo County has had 442 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. Out of 18,575 tests conducted, the SLO Public Health Lab confirmed 118 and private-industry labs confirmed 324. Hospitalized cases and ICU cases remain stable.
The county now has 119 active cases, with 112 recovering at home and 7 hospitalized (3 in ICU). Of the 38 new confirmed cases over the weekend and Monday:
- 19 are attributed to person-to-person spread
- 1 is attributed to travel
- 14 are attributed to community spread (not related to travel or to a known case)
- 4 are still under investigation

As of April 30, “Recovered” is now defined as at least three days, or 72 hours, of no fever, without the use of fever-reducing medications; and, improvement in respiratory symptoms, such as cough, shortness of breath; and, at least 10 days since symptoms first appeared.
Note: Case counts are updated once daily, Monday-Friday. Data posted each day are always preliminary and subject to change as individual case investigations are completed. Confirmed cases and detailed statistics page is not being updated on Saturdays and Sundays by the county.
