Cowboys and cattle signal opening of Mid-State Fair
The annual Cowboy and Cattle Drive kicked off the 2014 California Mid-State Fair this morning. A slew of cowboys and cowgirls of all ages followed Harris Stage Line stagecoaches carrying Fair dignitaries as well as the 2013 and 2014 Miss CMSF queen and princesses.
Crowds lined the streets of the city to witness the cowboys on horses drive about fifty heads of cattle from the Borjon Auto Center on Golden Hill Road at about 10:45 a.m. As they continued down Union Road to 13th St., hundreds of onlookers stopped to witness the annual event, peaking out from their homes and cars or setting up chairs along the route that continued up Riverside Ave. The cowboys and cattle arrived at the South Gate entrance to the fairgrounds just before noon to officially open the gates to the public on the first day of the 12-day Fair.
