Dedicate a few hours at the end of the week to plan, shop, and prepare your meals. Create a menu that includes a wide array of grains, proteins, fruits, and vegetables, and then draw up a shopping list.

In Paso Robles, we are lucky to have a vibrant Farmers’ Market hosted by North County Farmers Markets. Tuesdays, at City Park, from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM, you can indulge in the freshest fare, ranging from produce to grass-fed beef, aromatic herbs, baked goods, and artisan cheeses. 

Building sustainable dining habits? Try these steps:

  1. Start With the Seasons -Always kick-off by checking in with the seasonal offerings. Those are bound to be the freshest and most nutritious.

  2. Elevate Your Protein Game – Treat your taste buds to grass-fed beef and heritage breed pork from our local farmers for a sustainable protein source.

  3. Embrace the Rainbow – Go wild with the local, leafy greens, sweet fruits, and a rainbow of vegetables for a fiber-rich deal.

  4. Explore Flavor Town – You can never have enough garlic, herbs, and warming spices to elevate your dishes.

  5. Say Cheese – And please, don’t sleep on the artisan cheeses! It’s a crime that should be punishable (not really, but you get my point).

We started this journey with the daunting task of blending sustainability with our busy schedules, and I’ll venture to say that we’ve successfully carved out a meaningful, doable plan – all while keeping our sanity intact (minus the inevitable kitchen mishaps, we’ve all been there). 

Sustainable eating is less of a destination and more of an ongoing journey. It’s about tweaking habits, making informed choices, and enjoying the process as much as the end result. This path may seem slow, but remember – it’s the small steps that lead to significant changes.
